BMW Subsidiaries – From Production to Luxury
Over the course of the century BMW has expanded to where there are all sorts of different international groups producing their cars. Various companies work especially on BMW models for tuning and other features. Plus, there are other brands that BMW owns as well, including Rolls-Royce. Here's a look at these BMW subsidiaries.
While BMW is based in Germany there are various subsidiaries that work on producing all sorts of BMW cars. Most BMW cars made outside of Germany are made in the United Kingdom. The Hams Hall plant is one of the largest plants in the world, and other factories are located in Goodwood and Oxford. Also, there is a plant in the United States in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and there is a plant in Russia in the Charter of Kaliningrad.
There is also a plant located in South Africa. In 1968 BMW acquired the Praetor Monteerders plant in Rosslyn. Various different cars have been made for countries with right hand drive systems. Since 1994 the South Africa plant has worked to export cars around the world outside of the country because of the reduction of import tariffs after Apartheid.
All sorts of different companies are related to BMW and work as subsidiaries. AC Schnitzer works as a tuning company for BMW, and Hamann Motorsport works in motor styling for BMW vehicles. Other groups buy engines made by BMW, including Wiesmann, which makes two-seat roadsters.
There are two great companies that made BMW cars under different names. First, there is Mini. Owned by BMW since 2001, Mini cars are known for their small sizes but are especially popular for their supercharged engines and convertible options. The Cooper is the most popular of the cars made by Mini, but other models like the Traveller and Clubman are popular. Minis have even been engineered for motorsports. Over time the company has been popular in all parts of the world.
Rolls-Royce is the other company from BMW cars. Since 2003 BMW has worked to make high end luxury cars under the Rolls-Royce name. The Phantom is the top model in this field. It featured a 6.75L V12 engine and all sorts of luxurious designs, including a power reserve dial and a retractable Spirit of Ecstasy ornament for the hood. This company has been one of the top companies in the world among luxury models, and there are all sorts of private dealerships around the world.
BMW subsidiaries all work with the production of BMW cars and are also responsible for the production of various other cars in the BMW family. These subsidiaries are based throughout the world. In fact, there are production sites for cars of great luxury through BMW.
